Enrollment at Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy
The Cedar Rapids Community School District believes in the value of neighborhood schools. Students who live within a magnet school attendance zone are allowed to automatically attend the magnet school. They are not required to enter the Lottery to attend the magnet school serving their neighborhood attendance area.
If a student living outside of a magnet school attendance zone wishes to attend a magnet school, they need to enter the Lottery.
If a student living outside of the CRCSD wishes to attend a magnet school, they need to apply for Open Enrollment by March 1st and apply for the lottery.
The CRCSD uses a random computer generated Lottery for accepting students into a magnet school who reside outside a magnet school attendance zone. The Lottery is open to any student in grades 6-8. Out of district students are welcomed to apply to a magnet school. Placement in the Lottery is based on availability for each grade level. Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy has a limited number of lottery seats available.
Lottery Application Process
Magnet school seats will be awarded by a random lottery. Students applying for placement in a magnet program must enter the Lottery by completing an on-line application. Lottery applications are accepted starting Monday, February 1st, 2017 and are accepted online until Friday, April 7th, at 11:59 p.m. Applicants are not given preference based on the date of their application. The Lottery assigns an application number randomly to each applicant. Register for the Roosevelt Creative Corridor Business Academy Magnet School Lottery at https://cedar-rapids.goodwinchoice.com/
Lottery Priority Placements
On April 17th, each student entered in the lottery will receive a unique applicant number. Placements in a magnet school are made based on this random, computer generated applicant number. However, there are factors besides an applicant number affecting if a student is placed into a magnet school. Placement is not solely based on a student’s application number.
Open Enrollment Priority Placement
Open Enrollment Priority Placement is given to Cedar Rapids Community School District students who currently Open Enroll out of the district. 25% of lottery seats in the RCCBA lottery are reserved for these students. If CRCSD students who currently enroll out of the district are not placed in the 1st priority placement round, they are then placed based on their applicant number. In addition, priority will be will given to students who are coming from Johnson STEAM Academy and Kenwood Leadership Academy- each school will receive 25% of the lottery seats. If a JSA or KLA student is not placed in the 1st priority placement round, they are then placed based on their applicant number.
Applicant Number Placement
Applicant Number Placement - After CRCSD Open Enroll Out students, Johnson STEAM Academy students, and Kenwood Leadership Academy students fill 75% of seats (or all CRCSD Open Enroll Out students are placed, whichever comes first) remaining Lottery students are placed based on their applicant number. While placing students, siblings are giving priority placement.
Sibling Priority Placement
Sibling Priority Placement is given to siblings of students who have been placed a magnet school. Brothers and sisters of magnet school students who live at the same address and share at least one biological or legal parent have priority placement in the same magnet school building as their sibling pending grade level availability. There is no guarantee, however, that siblings will be placed together.
Non-CRCSD Applicants - If any open seats remain after all CRCSD lottery applicants are placed in the lottery and open Lottery seats remain, Non-CRCSD applicants will be placed based on their applicant number and grade level seat availability. The same sibling priority placement applies.
Parents will be notified of their child(ren)’s acceptance into the magnet school in the form of a Lottery packet and e-mail. Parents will be notified of Lottery results by Thursday, April 20th. You will receive a phone call within the following three days asking to accept your spot or decline. After that point, your acceptance letters and magnet packets are due back to the magnet school. Magnet school acceptance packets are due by Wednesday, April 26th by 4:00 p.m. After this date, if there are Lottery seats remaining, students in the applicant pool will be placed in the open Lottery seats.
